The Senior Reporting Analyst performs activities related to reporting services including but not limited to requirements gathering, report design/authoring, quality assurance and documenting artifacts related to the report development lifecycle. Utilizes strong business and technical knowledge to ensure the highest level of service and efficiency for the customer. Collaborates with University departments on complex reporting and research projects.


  • Perform all phases of report development, including intake from the business customer or request queue, transformation or acquisition of data, report creation, documentation of processes, and user acceptance.
  • Translate complex reporting requests from the business into a basic project plan, develop data requirements, acquire data from multiple sources, and develop reports that satisfy the business needs and anticipate future questions. 
  • Develop business requirements and process documentation for ad-hoc, on demand, and standard reports, and evaluate the documentation submitted by other team members for completeness.
  • Leverage an understanding of the business and strategy to provide recommendations on report design and automation; using best practices to meet business needs.
  • Appropriately identify and handle sensitive data using good judgement and IT security best practices in order to minimize or eliminate compliance risks. 
  • Collaborate within a team environment to develop relevant and repeatable policies and procedures for preparing reports.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting of reports to resolve failures, outages, or data integrity issues. Recommend performance tuning to improve functionality of queries and reports. 
  • Increase operational effectiveness through the development of robust and multidimensional reports, dashboards, and scorecards that leverage drill-through, roll-up, and parameterization to add value for University leaders.
  • Provide direction and support to less experienced analysts to orient them and increase their understanding of complex reporting and data analysis functions and industry standards.





• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Business Analytics or related field.
• Three (3) years of experience in designing and authoring advanced reports/dashboards using Microsoft BI stack (SSIS/SSRS/PowerBI) or other current reporting tools is required.
• Three (3) years of experience writing complex queries using T-SQL/PL SQL is required.


• Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions.
• Robust understanding of relational databases and data warehousing best practices strongly preferred.
• Ability to work with a minimal amount of direction while being pro-active in keeping their management informed of report related issues.
• Experience with prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple tasks simultaneously while adapting to change and managing multiple processes to accomplish goals and objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
