The primary responsibility of this role is to assist students by offering services and support which will help students achieve academic and career success. This position also provides support to new staff and assists leadership with planning, developing, and implementing departmental or divisional projects.


  • Meets with students to provide information about resources, website, tutoring, workshops, and orientations as necessary. Meet with students one on one to discuss special topics, training, and coaching.
  • Assimilates the student through the classroom experience via follow up and coordination with team members. This includes working in a team environment and providing feedback to the appropriate University team to enhance the student experience.
  • Incorporates the student’s goals, strengths and learning style to develop their personalized learning roadmap and connects learners to established resources and tools.
  • Plans, coordinates, and attends activities related to local and regional commencement ceremonies. May include travel to regional ceremonies, based on need.
  • Serves as a workshop facilitator for Phoenix provided tools and resources. Mentors other Operations staff in this area.
  • Successfully resolves or elevates student complaints as appropriate and communicates back to the counselor and management team responsible for the student.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and execution of student and alumni networking opportunities and student and faculty appreciation messages and events.
  • Leads and/or assists in the development, coordination, and execution of community engagement opportunities.
  • May be responsible for proctoring testing activities for University of Phoenix students and students from other colleges and universities.
  • Participates in the design, development, and strategic analysis of campus based initiatives aimed at student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
  • Some indirect supervisory responsibility. This position acts in a lead role to train, mentor and guide other Operations staff.
  • Some travel will be required



Basic Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, psychology or related field.
  • Two years of experience in student services, social services, training, development, or related positions.
  • Experience with defining project scope, project objectives and effectively coordinating activities in line with project management tools.
  • One year of experience mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and general advisement.
  • Experience in demonstrated skill with emotional intelligence in order to guide and counsel students based on need.
  • Experience delivering presentations to small and large groups
  • Experience leading, communicating, persuading and/or interacting effectively with others in difficult situations
  • Experience prioritizing and performing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to convey a professional image and maintain positive, professional and helpful interactions with students, staff, faculty, and external customers
  • Ability to navigate software and provide basic IT support
  • Ability to acquire and utilize a sound knowledge of the university’s information systems, as well as fundamental knowledge of university services, resources, and products
  • Ability and willingness to proactively make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls, to support students with the appropriate resources to successfully impact student retention and career achievement outcomes

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with some site and/or people management preferred
  • Knowledge of University of Phoenix culture, market position and general policies and procedures preferred
  • Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; experience with eCampus and UOPX student resources preferred.
