Overview

The Psychiatric Nursing Faculty teaches full-time in the LVN to BSN program at the Modesto, CA campus, utilizing effective teaching and learning strategies to engage students.  Activities include, but are not limted to, classroom instruction, simulation, laboratory, clinical sites, student academic coaching, and overall engagement in guiding student-driven success. Full-time nursing faculty participate in governance activities and collaborate with colleagues in the development and implementation of evidence-based best practices.

Responsibilities

1. Teaches multiple concurrent courses utilizing evidence-based best practices including clinicals, skills lab, and simulation - reflective of full-time status according to program needs

2. Develops and maintains an understanding of curriculum, courses, student learning outcomes, and assessment

3. Participates in program evaluation activities

4. Supports academic, program, and university policies and procedures

5. Maintains a record of scholarship and service, as well as practices and engages in professional development activities

6. Provides clinical instruction to student cohorts

7. Participates in skills lab and simulation activities

8. Coordinates and guides the clinical instructor to bridge the clinical experience with course material

9. Maintains a load of students for academic coaching and advising, following each student throughout the course of his/her program

10. Meets with and communicates consistently with students regarding student-driven success and NCLEX prep

11. Attends all university, School of Nursing, and campus meetings and activities as scheduled and/or specified

12. Observes telecommute policy and is available to colleagues and students on all telecommute and office days

13. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

• Master’s degree in Nursing REQUIRED
• An active unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
• Three (3) years of continuous full-time direct care experience working with the Mental Health population within the last five (5) years
• At least one (1) year of teaching in an undergraduate Nursing program or higher,  and/or the completion of post-baccalaureate course work in teaching Registered Nursing

Additional Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree in nursing or related field, strongly preferred
• Experience with qualitative, quantitative research, and evidence-based practice preferred
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of problem solving and decision making abilities to respond to student issues and concerns, evaluate students for potential barriers to retention, assess student work and abilities and to facilitate the learning experience
• Ability to be self-motivated and have proven ability to work independently managing multiple priorities and tasks to deliver required results efficiently and effectively
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees, and external parties 
• Ability to convey a professional image, as well as effectively represent the organization as appropriate in its relationship with the community
